NBC, which has a triopoly in Los Angeles, says it will sell KWHY-22 before closing the merger deal with Comcast. B&C reports that according to an FCC filing, NBC promised to sell KWHY or put it in a trust within 6 months of the NBCU-Comcast deal.
On Friday, Comcast also expressed its intention to sell one of the 3 L.A. stations in order to win FCC approval of the merger.
It makes sense for Comcast and NBCU to dump independent Spanish-language channel 22. The other 2 stations it owns are KNBC-4 and KVEA-52, the Telemundo O&O. But, as the WSJ points out, given the economic climate, a sale might be tough.
