Daniel Viotto is leaving CNN en Español, the network where he has worked as an anchor for the past 13 years.
“I have decided not to renew my contract,” Danny tells me. “It was a difficult decision to make after so many years with the company, but I felt it was necessary to make a change in my career. I have been with CNN en Español since its launch in 1997 and I feel it’s time to move on and explore new opportunities.”
Danny currently anchors and produces “Encuentro con Daniel Viotto,” an interactive half- hour news show. He also anchors “Nuestro Mundo,” the network’s evening newscast, and produces “Al Cierre,” a multi-anchor live show at 4 pm, for which he also line produces and anchors news segments.
He says he’s grateful for the many years he has spent at CNNE, and is very excited at the thought of starting a new phase in his career. His last day on the air is November 19, but he’ll remain with the company until the end of his contract, on January 19.
Prior to joining CNNE, Danny was a general assignment reporter for Telemundo’s KVEA-52 and a freelance reporter for KMEX-34 in Los Angeles.

I don't know if Mr. Viotto quit or if he has been fired. Anyway, this is an excellent opportunity for him. As an amateur observer of the news media in Spanish, I'm pretty sure that he is by far the best Spanish-speaking news anchor in the United States. Both the senior news anchors of the two main Spanish networks, Mr. Ramos and Mr. Sevscec are clearly not a competition to Mr. Viotto, a much better professional personality than the other two. As far as I know Time-Warner is not very generous regarding the salaries paid at CNNE and this is the chance Mr. Viotto has to get a job where he could be paid what he deserves.
