New networks launched in 2012 may supercharge the Spanish TV media market, but can they give their audiences what they truly want and need?
MundoFox debuted on August 13 and Time Warner Cable Deportes started broadcasting on October 1. Both are new Spanish-language networks, despite a growing U.S- born English-dominant and bilingual audience as Hispanics become more “acculturated.”
Both also promise a better alternative to the current programming already available. But will they deliver higher caliber content that could attract new Spanish-language and bilingual viewers or siphon them off from competitors?
I explore the viability of Spanish-language television, the Hispanic audience tuning in and the quality of the programming in my most recent column on Poder Hispanic Magazine.
