It took 17 years to get the first Latina co-host on “The View.” But less than a year since she started the job, Rosie Perez is leaving the show to focus on acting full-time.
“I’ve decided to move on… Today is bittersweet for me. I’m excited for what’s to come, but I’m so sad to leave The View, the staff, the producers, ABC,” the actress tearfully told the audience during this morning’s show.
“It’s a huge honor to be the first Latina on The View. What the hell took you so long?”
Her last day on “The View” is August 6.
There had been rumors for the past several months of her possible departure from the show, but it wasn’t until yesterday afternoon that they became a reality.
Executive producer Bill Wolff announced via email on Tuesday that Rosie would leave the show, but that she would “always be a part of “The View” family, and we will welcome her back as a guest anytime to catch up.”
No word yet on who will be brought in to replace Rosie. Let’s see if ABC steps up and recruits another Latina to bring a more inclusive view to “The View.”
