Univision has signed Patricia Janiot to replace Ilia Calderón as co-anchor of late-night network newscast “Noticiero Univision Edición Nocturna.”
She will also join Calderón and Teresa Rodríguez as co-anchor of Sunday news magazine “Aquí y Ahora” and helm a new, yet to be launched Latin America-focused news program on all Univision News digital platforms, in addition to developing content for special programs.
Janiot’s starts the new job Monday, January 22, 2018.
Univision’s official announcement comes just days after the longtime CNN en Español anchor issued an emotional on-air farewell on her “Panorama Mundial” show.
Janiot says it was a difficult decision, so why did she leave CNNE after almost 26 years?
“The short answer is resources and commitment to investigative reporting and long format stories. That is a luxury in times when many executives in the media are eliminating their investigative units,” she tells Media Moves. “At CNNE we were focused on breaking news and the news of the day. That is what CNN does best. I had been waiting for this opportunity for years and Univision gave it to me, including the honor of working with a group of colleagues that I admire tremendously.”
Janiot announced her departure from CNNE on November 6, to pursue “new challenges.” That day, Media Moves reported sources had confirmed she would be moving to Univision as a network anchor in Miami.
A multi-award winning journalist, Janiot shared the anchor desk with Jorge Gestoso for over a decade, until he left the network. She has been the solo anchor of CNNE’s principal primetime newscast, “Panorama Mundial” since 2003.
Her new position marks a return to Univision, where she worked as an anchor at Los Angeles local station KMEX 34 and as host of “Buenos Días Nueva York” on WXTV 41 in New York, prior to joining CNN.
Beyond her work in journalism, Janiot is President of the non-profit organization “Colombianitos,” which helps underprivileged children affected by violence in her native Colombia.
In her CNNE on-air farewell message, she thanked several colleagues, giving special recognition to the late Abel Dimant, who was instrumental in getting her hired at the network and whom she called a mentor:

What a disconnection she has with local media, she doesn’t know that univision is cutting on resources for investigating units since 2009.

Personally I feel this move to Univision was cold, Especially on Telemundo I think if some of you remember before Telemundo Network started it own network news division, she anchored a joint- produced newscast with CNN and Telemundo called “Noticiero Telemundo-CNN” and thought Telemundo has nothing to do with this still she along with Jorge Gestoso her CNN-Telemundo co- anchor they were that backbone to the idea of network news coming to Telemundo after that joint-production worked well then they cut ties. But I mention them because it’s gonna hurt Telemundo in the ratings, and for CNNE it hurt them to. Now I’m a Black-Latino part of me is (African-American and part of me is Dominican) and I’m in the English news business and we call the move a transition from Cable to Network were in Network it’s more serious, but Cable it a little bit opinionated and off the edge. So she transitioning into a very serious news division “Noticias Univision” (now really Spanish-Language Television doesn’t see it that way cause it about that translators to an Audience that doesn’t speak The American language of English.) So I think this is going to be a big change for Her, and I’m really interested about the Aqui y Ahora thing because now not just is Maria Elena Salinas leaving and leaving the role altogether, and Ilia Calderon is replacing, but now Patricia Janiot is now replacing Teresa Rodriguez. And Teresa and Maria Elena have been a dou for years and they’ve done Aqui y Ahora for lever now so this is going to the end of an era for a News-Magazine Anchor Team. So I’m very interested to see how New dou of Ilia and Patrica will go. I’m also having interested now she also going to anchor “Edicion Nocturna” to replace Ilia as she moves on to the flagship program. I’m interested how she fair with (soon-to-be her future weeknight co-anchor Enrique Acevedo) I would like to see how that goes.

Just few people know Janiot, her fanbase is from latinamerica. This move is too late for her and is going to be a big flop for univision, because she secured a good contract, thanks to the colombian mafia…. ilia, better go upstairs and review your contract
