Telemundo Station Group’s has finalized the acquisition of ZGS Communications’ nine television stations that serve six markets:
1. El Paso – KTDO, KTDO-LP
2. Orlando – WTMO-CD (Orlando), WMVJ-CD (Melbourne), WKME-CD (Kissimmee)
3. Tampa – WRMD-CD
4. Ft. Myers – WWDT-CD
5. Richmond – WZTD-LD
6. Springfield – WDMR-LD
According to the company, the transaction was completed yesterday, January 31, 2018.
With this purchase, Telemundo Station Group will expand its market footprint from 18 markets to 24 markets in the U.S. and in Puerto Rico.
In December, Telemundo struck a $75 million deal to buy all ZGS stations – 13 in total. The applications for the other four are still pending.
Telemundo Station Group and ZGS Communications filed license assignment applications in December 2017 for the stations in Washington, D.C. (WZDC) and Hartford, CT (WRDM), which were granted by the FCC on January 30. Both stations will soon broadcast on-air notifications, alerting viewers of upcoming changes in their markets. The Telemundo stations in Washington and Hartford are currently operated by WRC-TV and WVIT, respectively, through Local Marketing Agreements (LMAs).
Applications to acquire the stations in Providence and Raleigh will be filed when the channel sharing arrangements in those markets have been finalized.
Great news! Now I hope that with the growth of PRicans in Orlando/Kissimmee, Telemundo 31 brings a lot of the former Univision PR anchors and reporters here to Orlando, so the viewers have familiar faces in new places. And, Cyd Marie Fleming/Carlos Weber and Ramon Enrique Torres will make all the anchors here in Orlando, run for their money.
That’s gonna be hard to fulfill.
They are not newcomers, therefore they would aim for big bucks as salaries.
Current policy of investment and growing, is redirecting the cash flow to infrastructure rather than payrolls in Telemundo, both local and national.
I don’t see Cyd or Weber, working inland, for 60K per year.
When will there be a date on the finalization for the channel sharing agreements of my WZGS (Raleigh) and WRIW (Providence)? And when will Telemundo re-affilate WZGS?
