After 26 years in television news, Saul Garza has called it quits. He has left KDFW Fox 4, where he was a reporter since 1999, working on the morning show for the past decade.
He is moving on to a position as Social and Media Relations Manager for the City of Garland, part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
Garza’s last day at the Dallas station was Thursday, May 17. He was scheduled to leave at the end of the month, but moved up his exit date to have some time off before starting his new gig.
“Deciding to hang up the mic was not a hard decision. I did it for more than 25 years. But I got tired of waking up at 2:30AM, covering the same stories year after year. After a while, it takes its toll on you,” Garza tells Media Moves. “I wanted to do something new, but still continue to tell stories. That was important to me. I wanted to tell positive stories. Good stories. Stories that stations for whatever reason don’t cover. This is a great opportunity and new challenge for me. Garland gets it. The city knows the importance of social media, about connecting with the community and I’m grateful it’s taking a chance with me.”
Garza begins his new job on June 4.
Before joining KDFW, he worked in in Milwaukee as a general assignment reporter for WDJT-CBS 58 and anchored daily Spanish-language news breaks for sister station Univision-46.
He got his first job in broadcasting right out of college as an anchor/reporter at KRGV in Weslaco, TX in 1992.
