Manuel Moreno has jumped ship from Univision 23 to Telemundo 39 in Dallas. He has started a new job as assistant news director at the Telemundo O&O.
Moreno replaces Marialcy Carreño, who left the post earlier this month after getting promoted to news director and moving to Telemundo Las Vegas.
He moves up a step in the management ranks from his prior position as executive producer at Univision, where he had worked for the past 14 years.
Moreno took over as assistant news director at Telemundo 39 on October 15.
Prior to Univision, he worked as a producer at Venevisión and RCTV in Venezuela.
Jose Critico says
It is offensive that people like Oldenburg, with a third-world mentality and personality, will only hire Venezuelans to high-ranking positions.
And it is unfortunate that Telemundo allows individuals who prefer loyalty, rather than experience, talent and merit, to do whatever they want.
It is people like Oldenburg who are turning the Spanish-language news business in the United States into a third-world style operation where friendships dictate what positions you get, and how high you get promoted.
Critico de Jose says
No doubt you have a beef with Mr. O.
God knows why or since.
But at least J.C., be fair.
Latino TV in the States has always been a third category kinda thing.
Operational, salary wise and both ideologically and politically.
Worse yet, it won’t change any time soon.
Blaming him, with a racial or an agenda flags as you just stated it, does not make anyone, any favor. Ain’t no true either.
Let’s have more balls, or ovaries, to point fingers to the real Masters, not us, the Toys.
Jose Critico says
I can’t say I have met/worked with anybody else like him. I have only heard stories of other people like him. So, I stand by what I said.
Oldenburg epitomizes everything that is wrong, bad and backwards in Latin America.
And he is extending that into the US Spanish-language industry.
Victoria Ruffo says
It is so disappointing to see how people from our own community are so divisive and racism. Instead of being united as Hispanic, derogatory comments like this demonstrate the wall and divisions we have created in our own community. Just because we do not share the same nationality, we are not from the same “la raza” or even from the same city, people might be the target of resentful comments.
I am flabbergasted to see how narrow-minded people using a nickname as a shield vent their frustrations with pejorative posting and hidden agenda. The truth is they are incapable of confronting their own frustrations, prejudices and biases. More disappointing is to know that these people are sometimes wrongly named “professional” communicators.
I know Mr. Oldenburg for many years and I could not disagree more with your comments. I have been able to grow as a professional because my hard work and perseverance, but I must thank Mr. Oldenburg for the opportunity. “Luck Is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity” He gave me the opportunity, I brought the rest. Mr. Oldenburg always promoted an inclusive and well diverse environment in our newsroom. In the years I worked with Mr. Oldenburg, he not only coached me, but he kept motivated the entire team. One thing I have to say though, he cannot stand mediocrity, and this can create frustration in some people.
Invest more time is your preparation and less in your frustration. “I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” – Thomas Jefferson.
Good LUCK to you and/or your friend
Jose Critico says
Well written. And you are probably well educated. But it is likely that you had the ‘Luck’ to get that ‘opportunity’ because you were in his inner circle.
And aside from that aspect, Oldenburg does think he is always right, has a third-world mentality and personality, treats people like they do in Venezuela and Latin America, and does value loyalty more than talent – period.
Only people who have experienced both cultures enough know and can make that comparison.
I am not frustrated at all. I have excelled in this industry – without kissing up and/or agreeing with people like Oldenburg. Especially when their ideas are really others, simply reworded.
Nice effort trying to finesse Oldenburg’s third-world management style.
Victoria Ruffo says
I was expecting to receive a much clever response, but I always have high expectations in people, my bad. Your comments are the sad stereotype of a FRUSTRATED wanna be first world class person. In your little, beautiful, narrow an exclusive world, everyone that was not lucky enough to be born in your “barrio” must be treated as your inferior. According to you, all Venezuelans and all Latin American mistreat people and lack of education. It is so pathetic to hear these type of racism comments in particular from someone that has “excelled in the industry“ , someone with such a limited capacity to understand that the Hispanic community trespass the boundaries of your “colonia”. Keep doing what you are and excelling in the industry, but with this mentality I am sure you have reached your limits.
As far of me, I was giving an opportunity to prove my capacity. I did not win anything, I earned it. I was not in Mr O’s inner circle as you suggested, but I spend time networking, the rest, it was on me. But this is probably too sophisticated to understand, and it is certainly easier to attack. If hard work and perseverance means kissing assess, I name myself the biggest ass kisser off all times, and I will keep kissing asses. I wonder how you got where you are, but ultimately, what are you doing for maintaining it?
I struggle to see people believing they deserve things. Existentially we don’t deserve anything, accepting that you “don’t really deserve anything will help you appreciate and be grateful for all the gifts you have been given and that actually, since you’re here, life’s probably too good”
This is the last time you will hear from me. For some of us, life is too precious and you are not worth one additional minute as you are invisible.
Keep fulfilling your sorrow behind your nickname and attacking people and nationalities with racism comments and naming everyone outside your “vecindario” as an inferior. This is probably the only way for pathetic souls to feel gratified and accomplished. I can see you having a victorious smile in your face, probably the only one you will have in a while. Keep growing Mr./Mrs. Jose(fa). I really doubt it, but if someday you are in a management role, you might have the opportunity to hire and be surrounded by intellectuals like Mr. Steve Gonzalez, he certainly might be the fit for you and your team.
There is much truth in the popular belief that people are mean to others in order to feel better about themselves. Enjoy life, liberate frustrations and get rid of your inferiority complex. These are the first steps towards happiness
Jose Critico says
Well, well. As expected, you turned this into something that is not.
I never said that all Venezuelans and Latin Americans mistreat people or lack education. In fact, I never said that Oldenburg lacks education (Although he has poor grammar, both in Spanish and English).
I did say that he treats people poorly, like they do in Latin America. But not everyone in Latin America does. Only assholes like him. Unfortunately, you see more of that there than in the U.S.
Nobody said anything about deserving anything or getting a free pass. But now that you mention it, everybody deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Not like Oldenburg does, or at least used to do.
And I didn’t attack a nationality. I said that I took offense that an asshole, who happens to be Venezuelan, seems to only hire Venezuelans for high-level positions. But at the end, his management style is what I object to the most. And it happens to be a management style Oldenburg should have left behind in Venezuela, and that is inconsistent with US values.
And I am only mean to assholes. And Oldenburg is the king.
And I if you found time to write this during business hours, you are certainly in his inner circle. Because he is the only news director that works from home every Friday and/or Monday.
Have a great life !

Oh my!!! I thought the Andrea Ospina post would remain a record for a while but surprise, surprise. I worked @ KXTX a while ago, but didn’t work for mr. O. I will say, however, that the GM has the tendency of letting “his” NDs fail. Not to mention he acts like he knows how a newsroom works. In that note, I will say this. KXTX has always had the worst leadership. Look at Karen Mendez, Sandra Thomas and Alfredo Sanchez. Good people, but newsroom losers. Also in that note, the only way to move up in that newsroom was to kiss the NDs ass. Here is an awesome example: Cinthia Garcia. That woman does nothing, uses work time to set up calls for his realtor business (yes, i’ve seen her) but has glorified manager status. I HOPE mr. Moreno puts and end to the mediocrity some managers have. You go Mr. M!!!
Meeeeee says
Woooowwwwww …. a manager who uses her work time for her side realtor business??? I wonder if Olga Aldape knows about this. Someone, shoot her a message. Wait to go Telemundo Dallas!!! No wonder mediocrity is your slogan

Newsie back says
Ni venden ni ascienden, you blatantly lie here my friend.
And as for “growing”, another pinocchio for you.
How come you guys keep asking help then, from outsiders in order to cover special news events?
But that’s just fine pal, you’ve just won another merit medal.

It’s pretty obvious that everyone here is mad. Not at Manuel, but at Management. Let’s not forget that this is not a venting place to spill your fake emotions out. That is what the Human Resourse Department is for. If you have the courage to say something here, please tell HR.
Now, let’s be clear about a couple of things:
1. If you feel mad, or unhappy about this move; Too bad! You’re not strong enough to be in this industry.
2. If your mad about reason number 1. Then try working for Fox. You wouldn’t last one day. Also, you’re too sensitive.
3. Mr. OldenBurger, or whatever his name is? Actually speaks English and understands the Market for once.
4. Instead of attacking other profiles, why don’t you prove it by making a difference. Step up!
And #5., Last one I promise.
Please Vote! But do it! Other than that, Good luck on elections everyone.
Sincerely,
A fellow ex-employee that has worked with pretty much everyone. Besitos.
