Gabriel Sotelo has resigned as weeknight sports anchor at KSTS Telemundo 48 to embark on an entirely different career path.
He left the station to become a pastor and help open the Austin campus of Bay Area-based VIVE Church.
His last day on the air was March 8.
“I’m more than grateful to have been a part of Telemundo 48 and NBC Bay Area for almost five years. I had the opportunity to grow professionally and do things I only dreamed of as a kid,” Sotelo tells Media Moves.
“The time has come to grow in other areas of my life. Through this time I realized that my priorities were my faith and my family. As I enter this new chapter of my life I will be able to focus on both.”
Sotelo was ordained as a pastor this past Sunday, March 24 and will lead VIVE Austin as Campus Director, along with his wife.
Prior to joining Telemundo 48 in 2014, Sotelo was an anchor at the Entravision-owned Univision morning show “Despierta San Diego.”

Pastors make way more money than tv talent…. good move brah! The lavish lifestyle of a pastor….
Jimmy Salty says
Maybe he won’t make such amount as you suggest.
Maybe is just his call.
Whether is TV or a Temple, every one needs to find their own call.
It seems you have not yet.
Get a life brah. Yours is slipping.

And Yes , this is a good business call: preaching to burning man people … but hey, it is not my money they are taking…
